The purpose of the following investigation is to identify, explain and record the nutritional status of children from the ages of 6 months through 59 months and their mothers from the Rural Village of Ccoñamuro Center, located at 4,200 m.a.s.l. in the province of Quispicanchi, Cusco. Cusco is one department with the highest malnutrition and anemia rates in Peru. It also has the purpose of investigation the most important reason for the malnutrition state in the village, being in this investigation in this way the first recorded in this area. This investigation started with a nutritional evaluation following the Base of Line guidelines. The applied basal survey implicated (included) a 67 questions form in order to investigate demographic, and socioeconomic aspects, anthropometric attributes (weight/height), health risks (hemoglobin dosage), information related with nutrition and eating patterns. To evaluate the childre´s nutritional status, anthropometry was applied taking account their age, gender, weight and height. The nutritional status of the children was diagnosed through the classification of weight for the age indicator, height for age indicator, and weight for height indicator. To evaluate the mother´s nutritional status, anthropometry took place, considering age, weight and height. The nutritional status was diagnosed through the use of the Quetelet Index. Similarly, a hemoglobin biochemical test was taken to determine the anemia overcome through the dosage of hemoglobin of children from 6 to 59 months old and their mothers, using a portable hemoglobinometer (HemoCue). A questionnaire of Food Consumption Frequency was included in the Line of Base questionnaire form, in order to know the eating habits. The results showed that 32% of the 6 to 59 months old children of the Rural Villege of Ccoñamuro Center present chronic malnutrition; 93% of the children present iron-deficiency anemia, and a high 82% of the children´s mothers suffer of anemia too, turning this cases, as shown by the high prevalence, into a public health problem. Finally, the base line poll results indicated that the frequency of food consumption, the extreme poverty, the exclusive breastfeeding, the beginning of a complementary diet, the mothers´ education level, and the sanitation factors as storage of drinking water, use of latrines, garbage disposal, and cooking fuel, are factors that influenced on the malnutrition of the population in study.
