The present study seeks to establish the relationship between the emotional intelligence and the primary mental abilities in students of 5th year of secondary from differentiated schools. Likewise, to compare both variables between students from State and Private Educational Institutions. The study is of descriptive level, basic type, and correlational - comparative design. The sample is made up of 161 students who were in their last year of secondary in Educational Institutions in the district of El Agustino, Lima, Perú. The instruments used were The BarOn Emotional Quotient Inventory ICE: NA and The Primary Mental Abilities Test (PMA). The results show that the total emotional coefficient and the dimensions interpersonal intelligence and stress management, are significantly related to the factor V of PMA. Besides, at a comparative level no statistically significant differences were found in emotional intelligence according to educational management. However, there are differences in the primary mental abilities in favor of the students from Private Educational Institution in factors V, R, N and F.
