The following work presents the relationship of the basic and superior cognitive processes in all the development that involves acquiring the reading and writing process. Specifying its basic concepts and what processes influence each stage to acquire this non-innate ability, considering that from neuroscience there are specific areas of the brain that are stimulated through practice and learning. Likewise, the methods and techniques used by teachers or counselors in search of incorporating these skills in the shortest possible time to students will be made known. In the same way, we explain the usefulness of playful materials that in essence take cognitive processes as an important reference to develop and achieve correct reading and writing learning in the student. Reaching the conclusion that, in order to acquire literacy, it is necessary to have developed and strengthened cognitive processes, since they will be immersed throughout this process.
