This research originated as a response to the problem of low productivity in road improvement projects. It should be noted that this problem has a negative impact on the economic benefits of infrastructure development and prolongs collateral damage to citizens and the environment. Therefore, this research aimed to propose a model using the Lean approach to improve productivity in road improvement projects in Metropolitan Lima. In this sense, a qualitative approach was used within the framework of the Design Science Research (DSR) methodology, which consists of four stages: problem recognition, preliminary definitions, development of the model, and evaluation of the model. Literature reviews, the Delphi method, and Focus Groups (FGs) were used to develop the aforementioned stages. As a result, an integrated Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Last Planner System (LPS) model was proposed to address the problems of poor communication between construction parties and inefficient project planning and scheduling. Finally, it is concluded that the proposed model is valid to solve or mitigate the identified problems.
