The present project was developed on the road to the town center Santo Tomas; In the district of San Juan Bautista, located 20 minutes by bus, south of the city of Iquitos. To evaluate the local knowledge and the existence of groups of management of the water resource and form of use for human consumption in the human settlements located in the axis of the highway to Santo tomas. After developing the research project, the ways of capturing the water resource was determined, that the water extracted in the 04 human settlements are extracted from wells and subjected to different processes for their consumption. It was determined that the population of human settlements is aware of the quality of water consumption since 96.25% say they know how to consume water. The way most people use water is to chlorinate it (chlorine), as 36.11% of the inhabitants do this process to treat water, which is the cheapest or free form since medical posts deliver chlorine tablets or simply They do it with commercial bleach, having disadvantage since they do not know the exact dose to chlorinate the water; Boiling water is the second most used form of the population with 35.15% since it is a little more expensive and only use it to take or make their food. At the level of organization existing in communities on local water resources management groups, 85.11% of the population studied determined that if the formation of management groups is important and these groups are important to contribute to improved management Of the water resource, learning to use this resource better. At the level of results found and in contrast to the research hypothesis, the hypothesis is rejected, based on the non existence of groups and the very weak information that the villager handles on how to handle this very important resource.
