Fine roots are the main entrance of organic carbon to soils, therefore, it´s one of the most important components of carbon cycle. The aim of this study was assess the net primary productivity (NPP) of fine roots in three forest types of Jenaro Herrera, Loreto. The NPP of fine roots was monitored by the Ingrowth core method, in a wet varillal, high terrace and high resting forest, localized in areas of Jenaro Herrera Research Center (CIJH) at Peruvian Amazon Research Institute (IIAP). Root extraction was conducted approximately every 3 months. The NPP of fine roots was 3.68±2.06 t C ha-1 y-1 in the wet varillal forest; 3.12±1.94 t C ha-1 y-1 in the high terrace forest, and 1.59±0.80 t C ha-1 y-1 in the high resting forest. There was statistically significant difference between the high restinga forest with the other two types of forest. No temporal variation was found in any of the types of forest. Also, no correlation between the NPP of fine roots and precipitation was found.
