Objective: To determine the prevalence and factors associated with neonatal jaundice of full-term newborns at Hospital Apoyo Iquitos during the year 2018. Materials and methods: The present work is an observational, analytical, retrospective study of cases and controls. The study population consisted of 144 patients who met the criteria to be included in the study. Information was collected in a 1: 3 ratio, of which 36 patients were included in the "cases" group and 108 in the "controls" group. Results: The prevalence of neonatal jaundice in Hospital Apoyo Iquitos, during 2018 was 11.85%, the average time of presentation of neonatal jaundice was 2.2 ± 0.7 days, with an average total bilirubin of 13.6 ± 4.5. In relation to the associated risk factors, it is evident that having a maternal pathology in general [OR = 4.68 (1.90-11.49): p = 0.001], specifically an infectious maternal pathology [OR = 4.96 (1.92-12.67); p = 0.001] and blood group incompatibility [OR = 4.19 (0.83-22.22) p = 0.0288] increase the likelihood of the newborn having jaundice. With regard to the factors of childbirth, having been born by caesarean section [OR = 2.52 (1.05-5.97); p = 0.020], the meconium amniotic fluid [OR = 5.65 (1.07-37.81); p = 0.012] and the use of oxytocin [OR = 2.35 (0.95-5.68) p = 0.036] constitute risk factors. It was also found that neonatal pathology [OR = 17.64 (6.34-49.90); p <0.001] is generally a risk factor for neonatal jaundice. Conclusions: At Hospital Apoyo Iquitos, the prevalence of neonatal jaundice was 11.85% in 2018, and associated risk factors such as maternal pathology in general, especially infectious pathology, blood group incompatibility, cesarean delivery, meconium amniotic fluid , use of oxytocin during childbirth and associated neonatal pathology increase the likelihood that the newborn will develop jaundice.
