Macroeconomic theory in general and growth theories in particular postulate that investment is necessary to achieve the development of a country or region; the further away you are, the more resources you will need to achieve this purpose. In the case of the Loreto region, it is disjointed from the rest of the country as it does not have land, railways or similar routes, resulting in high transportation costs for people and products, due to the complicated logistics it represents. The objective of the present investigation is to analyze the evolution of public investment in the Loreto region, during the period 2012-2016. For this purpose, the present investigation was carried out of the descriptive and non-experimental design type, in which it is analyzed the sources of public investment and the sectors of destination. Public investment comes from the three levels of government: Central Government, Regional Government and Local Governments. During the study period, the investment amounted to S /. 3,581.02 million, with the Local Governments executing the largest resources for an amount of S /. 1,627.84 million, equivalent to 45.46% of the total, followed by the Regional Government, an organization that dedicated S /. 1,308.40 million for this purpose, an amount that represented 36.54% of the total investment. The Central Government was the institution that invested the least resources in the region, adding a total of S /. 644.78 million, a figure that represents 18.01% of the total investment. On the other hand, when analyzing investment by sectors, the "Transport and Communications" sector stands out in the first place, having concentrated 25.95% of the total investment, equivalent to S /. 929.13 million, resources destined to finance projects such as the access road to the new Yurimaguas port terminal. The "Education" sector concentrated the second largest amount invested, which reached the sum of S /. 633.81 million with 17.70% of the total. A similar amount of investment corresponded to the "Sanitation" sector with S /. 633.19 million (17.68% of the total).
