The objective of this research study was to compare second year students’ achievement in oral communication in English at Ramón Castilla y Marquesado public school and Sagrada Familia private school, Belen district 2020. The research type is comparative with field study, transectional contemporary, and univariable designs. Results show that the public school students’ mean scores were higher (11.387>11.07) both being «in process» level of achievement. The same happens in its dimensions: inferencing and interpreting information (12.04>11.52), «in process», use of non-verbal and paraverbal resources (8.487>8.41), «beginner level», and strategic interaction (8.00> 7.42), «beginner level», except for getting information (15.36<15.41), when private school students had slightly higher mean score and were both at «expected level of achievement». In conclusion, the U test of Mann-Whitney shows that there are significant differences in oral communication (p-value= 0.044<α=0.05), as well as strategic interaction (p-value=0,005<α=0.05). However, there is no significant difference in the other dimensions.
