Since the first half of March 2020, the country, especially the Loreto region, has been a victim of COVID-19. The measures adopted, such as mandatory quarantine, the use of masks and gloves, are part of a comprehensive set of prevention and control measures to limit the spread of the disease. The use of masks and gloves is not sufficient to achieve a sufficient degree of protection or source control. For this reason, the waste generated at home during the care of a sick family member or during the convalescence period, due to its high transmissibility characteristics, requires careful management. The thesis addresses the way in which families manage these wastes; from this, to propose improvements for the safe management of wastes within the family and community nucleus. The technique used for the collection was the simple questionnaire with closed questions. A total of 384 surveys were applied, distributed proportionally in the 4 districts: Punchana, Belen, San Juan Bautista and Iquitos (96 surveys in each district taken randomly), to families who have had COVID-19. The general behavior of the population regarding the use of masks and gloves according to the Z-test, shows that families in Iquitos are inadequately managing household solid waste: masks and gloves during the COVID-19 health emergency.
