In this study the bacteriological quality of water for human consumption of artesian wells and rustic wells of the community of Santo Tomás, Iquitos – Peru was evaluated. Applied research was developed with emphasis on descriptive statistics, water samples were collected from 10 artesian wells and 10 rustic wells, (5 samples per wells), the method of multiple fermentation tubes, expressed in terms of Most Probable Number (NMP / 100ml). The indicators used for the evaluation of the bacteriological quality of the wells were: total coliforms and thermotolerant coliforms. Results: Of a total of 10 artesian wells, 6 wells exceeded the maximum permissible limits of total coliforms (1500NMP / 100ml) and 4 wells did not report the presence of total coliforms and thermotolerant coliforms, while in the 10 rustic wells, the presence of total coliforms and thermotolerant coliforms with maximum values of 7500NMP / 100ml and 1100NMP / 100 ml respectively, finally we conclude, that the bacteriological parameters of the waters of 4 artesian wells showed absence of total coliforms and thermotolerant coliforms, in contrasts with the rustic wells , which exceeded the standards of the regulation of water quality for human consumption, considering them waters not suitable for human consumption.
