The objective of this research was to determine the factors associated with dental caries in the first permanent PMP molar in children aged 6 to 12 years of the Melvin Jones - Iquitos School, 2016. The type of study was quantitative, non-experimental, correlational, transverse design. The sample was 183 children between 6 - 12 years old, to whom they applied, the DMFT index, the ICDAS II System and oral hygiene index (IHOS), in addition to a questionnaire on oral health to mothers. The prevalence of caries was 88%, being higher in males with 88.2% than in females with 87.8%; The CPO was 2.72 + 1.42; The component that contributed the most was caries with 2.52; The highest percentage of CPO occurred at the age of 9 years 18.6% and the majority of children had the first 4 molars with caries 37.7%, in addition 3.3% had lost 1 molar first. The ICDAS of the sample was 5.67 + 2.62; The component that contributed the most was caried with 5.33; In the 4 pieces the occlusal surface presented the highest average of carious lesions; Being the lesion (code 2) the one with the highest percentage 53.69%. Oral hygiene was mostly regular with 56.3%. The highest percentage of mothers had full secondary 42.1%. The mothers presented a level of knowledge in oral health acceptable with 53.0%, concluding that there is a statistically significant relationship between dental caries and oral hygiene (p = 0.000). There is no relationship between dental caries and mothers' educational attainment; And between dental caries and the level of knowledge of mothers.
