Hyperglycemia is high glucose content in the blood and can lead to metabolic diseases such as diabetes. There are alternatives to control hyperglycemia such as the use of medicinal plants, which is growing. The present study aims to evaluate the inhibitory activity of the lyophilized aqueous extracts of four Amazonian plant species Guazuma ulmifolia Lam (Bolaina), Handroanthus obscurus (Dark Tahuari), Dracontium loretense Krause (Jergón sacha) and Physalis angulata L (Bolsa mullaca) on the enzyme activity of alpha-glucosidase in vitro. For this, the enzymatic alpha-glucosidase test was used, where 4 concentrations of extracts (1000, 100, 10 and 1 μg/mL) were evaluated to determine the mean inhibitory concentration (IC50). The extract that had high inhibitory activity was the Guazuma ulmifolia extract with IC50 of 13.49 ± 3.65 ug / mL, followed by the Handroanthus obscurus extracts. Dracontium loretense and Physalis angulata that had low activity with an IC50> 1000 respectively against the reference substance Acarbose with IC50 of 858.67 ± 29.73. In conclusion, the results obtained show that the Guazuma ulmifolia species had the highest inhibitory activity than the alpha-glucosidase enzyme and that it could be considereGd as a promising plant for the treatment of hyperglycemia.
