Insects over the years have been studied for their various healing properties; for this reason, the present research aimed to evaluate the antagonistic activity of ants of the genus Solenopsis and termites of the genus Nasutitermes against strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, using the modified agar diffusion method. It was obtained that the two extracts (Solenopsis and Nasutitermes) presented antagonistic activity, of 10 strains of P. aeruginosa, 80% were sensitive to the Nasutitermes extract, while for the Solenopsis extract the presence of halo was not registered; on the other hand, of 10 strains of S. aureus, 90% were sensitive to the Nasutitermes extract, while for the Solenopsis extract it was recorded that 80% presented an inhibition halo. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration for the Nasutitermes extract in P. aeruginosa only had activity in 4 strains, whose values fluctuated between 125 mg / ml and 0.488 mg / ml; while in S. aureus there was greater inhibition in Solenopsis than in Nasutitermes, 8 and 5 strains respectively. Regarding the Minimum Bactericidal Concentration, favorable results were found, since in P. aeruginosa and S. aureus there was less than 75 colonies growth. Concluding that the Nasutitermes and Solenopsis extracts show good antagonistic activity against the two species of bacteria, the Nasutitermes extract being more effective than the Solenopsis extract.
