The Acarahuazú Astronotus ocellatus is a cichliform fish that is marketed as an ornamental fish and for consumption in Peru, its highest production coming from natural environments. However, this species is considered a promising fish for fish farming, being its cultivation at an extensive level. Studies related to the nutritional aspect of Astronotus ocellatus are scarce in the Loreto region, which leads the fish producer to use food from other species of fish, increasing production costs. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of three protein concentrations (T1 = 30, T2 = 35 and T3 = 40% CP) on the growth rate, zootechnical index and body composition of Astronutus ocellatus juveniles. 150 specimens were collected from the Itaya river, being distributed in 9 cages, in a completely random design, at a density of 10 fish / 1m3 in a land pond of the NGO's Amazon Research Center for Ornamental Fishes. The fish were fed daily, 2 times a day, with a feeding rate of 3% of the biomass. Growth was monitored every 15 days to determine the growth rate in weight and length, as well as the productive indices: weight gain (GP), daily weight gain (GPD), biomass gained (BG), specific growth rate. (TCE), apparent feed conversion index (ICAA) and survival (S). The proximal composition, protein, ethereal extract, ash and moisture of the fish were determined at the beginning and at the end of the study. The water quality was recorded every fortnight. At the end of the study, there were no significant differences (p> 0.05) in the growth rate in weight and length, in the zootechnical indices and body composition, the values being similar between the treatments. The water quality did not register variations between the treatments. Juveniles of Astronotus ocellatus can be fed with protein content of 30, 35 and 40%.
