The hypoglycemic activity was determined of the aqueous extract of Phalaris cannariensis (Canary seed), administered Holtzmann strain albino rats at doses of 100 mg / kg and 200 mg / kg and its application as nutraceutical food. A descriptive, experimental prospective study was done. Alloxan was used, reagent which induce experimental hyperglycemia to albino rats Holtzmann. The investigation began taking the baseline sample glucose in rats, then be induced to hyperglycemia alloxan waiting 48 hours after treatment, In this test were used Holtzmann strain albino rats of male sex, with an average weight of 260 + 10 g divided into four groups, one negative control group, one positive control group (Glyburide 5mg) and 2 control groups, aqueous extract of Phalaris cannariensis (Canary seed) at doses 100 mg / kg and 200 mg / kg treating began after verifying hyperglycemia the oral administration of the substances under study and proceeded to sampling at 1 hour, 3 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours and 24 hours started, during the study period, non-mortality was observed, their body weight remained constant similar to the negative control. It was noted that our monitoring groups significantly decreased blood glucose levels in the blood of rats; compared with our positive control (Glyburide 5mg) decreased by 36.9% blood glucose levels in rats, remains our best control group 200 mg / kg which reduced blood glucose levels in rats at 19.4%. At study determined that the aqueous extract of Phalaris canariensis (Canary seed) have a hypoglycemic effect on rats treated.
