Scientific research in the undergraduate is going through a crisis not only because of the low production but also because of the quality of each of them, it is also the axis of medical training, and not only is it a compulsory university task to obtain new knowledge, but which is a valuable instrument for the training of medical professionals of a high academic level. Objective: to determine the knowledge and attitudes in research of the undergraduate students of the faculty of human medicine of the NUPA (National University of the Peruvian Amazon) Material and method: the study was conducted in medical students; 249 questionnaires were analyzed. The data was collected as follows: The questionnaire application to students and their analysis in the statistical program of SPSS version 18 Results: Questionnaires of 249 students (52.2% males) with an average age of 21.94 years were analyzed. Only 28.5% of the respondents had a good level of knowledge and 64.3% an adequate attitude toward research. The variables associated with the good level of knowledge were: the academic year of the respondent as of the 3rd academic year, belonging to a research group and having carried out at least 1 project and / or research work. Conclusions: In general, the level of knowledge about research is poor and the attitude towards it is adequate for most students. To change this situation, it is a priority to make curricular changes that guarantee the incorporation of students to research from the beginning of the career and develop research skills in the last years of study.
