Introduction: The infection rates of leishmaniasis are increasing, and it is considered a public health problem, apparently because it is within a group of diseases called orphans, whose treatment is assumed by the State. The little interest generated by the pharmaceutical industry in the creation of new drugs for this type of disease, so that in this work the was evaluated the in vitro leishmanicidal activity of 10 plant species of the Piper genus (Piperacea). Methods: The ethanolic extracts of 10 plant species of the Piper genus (Piperacea) were evaluated against promastigotes of Leishmania braziliensis. As a positive control, sodium stibogluconate and the methanolic extract of Jacaranda copaia were used. The parasitic load reading and viability were performed at 24 and 48 hours on a flow cytometer (BD-FACSCalibur). The IC50 was determined by an activity curve: dose-response. (CI = 95%, p = 0.05). Results: Of the 10 plant species only Piper obtusilimbum C. DC. Presented activity against L. brasiliensis (IC50 of 7.59μg/mL and 5.09μg/mL). Conclusion: Piper obtusilimbum C. DC. He presented an IC50 of 7.59μg/mL and 5.09μg/mL at 24 and 48 hours respectively, was more active than stibogluconate and the methanolic extract of Jacaranda copaia
