The purpose of this research was to determine the predisposing factors re1ated to cleft lip and 1 or pa1ate in patients treated at the Regional Hospital of Lo reto period 2008 - 2014. The research was quantitative, no experimental design, descriptive simple, and transverse. The results were: male gender was the most prevalent with 52.5%. The most prevalent type of cleft palate 1esion was 55%, followed by unilateral cleft 1ip with 15%, unilateral Cleft hard palate 12%, cleft palate with cleft lip 8% Cleft hard palate and soft palate with bilateral cleft lip and cleft lip 5%. 15% hada family history. 62.5% ofmothers and 47.5% of parents were between 20-29 years. 75% did not use any medication during pregnancy, those who u sed amoxicillin was the most used with 10%. 15% did not use any vitamin supplements, of those who used folie acid, calcium and ferrous sulfate were the most common with 85%. 75% did not present any illness during pregnancy, ofthose with urinary tract infection was the most prevalent with 15%. 82.5% no radiographic examinations performed during pregnancy. 45% ofmothers smoked during pregnancy. 22.5% ofmothers of patients with cleft lip and 1 or palate drug use during pregnancy. 60% of mothers and 92.5% offathers drank liquor during pregnancy, being the factor with the greatest presence. 70% of mothers u sed contraceptives ever. The prevalen ce of dental caries was 97 .5%, the presence of malocclusion was 92.5. Failure to thrive present was 65% in patients.
