In this study, the current status of the modalities of use of the lumber resource in the Loreto Region was determined under the framework of the Forestry and Wildlife Law 29763. The information was collected in different state agencies such as the Natural Resources Management in Loreto (GELFOR), private companies and people related to the use of forest resources. The results indicate that in the last 15 years, the modality of forest concessions has covered 45% of the total average of lumber production at national level, followed by forest permits (33%), local forests (17%) and authorizations (5%). Forest authorizations are the modality that complies with the requirements established by the legislation since the volumes requested are small and require minimal bureaucratic procedures; Furthermore, concessions, permits, and local forests present the same informality problems, with forest permits being the one most at risk due to the informality of the community members. The Forestry and Wildlife Law has increased the levels of illegal logging of the forest due to its complexity, it is not dynamic, it is not promoter but controlist, bureaucratic and anti-technical. Administrative and operating costs are very high, so loggers cannot meet these demands. Minimal control was observed by SERFOR and GOREL in the different exploitation modalities.
