Between August 2010 and January 2011 the richness and abundance of insects in experimental plantations study Heliconia spp. The presence and damage caused by insects in 56 varieties of Heliconia spp was directly observed. the damages ocasionadoses were total destruction or partial of the leaves, perforations in the pseudotallo and deformations in catkins, leaves and plant's another parts. Registering 31 taxa of insects, spread over 6 orders and 16 families, being the most representative family Acrididae 4 species and 3 morphospecies recorded also with the largest species of Abracris flavolineata with 35.6% and Conopis sp. with 28.7% incidence. Taxa were the most infestivas Conopis sp. with 17.09% degree of infestation, registered a greater degree in Heliconia metalica and Formicidae sp.1 with 12.7%, recorded mostly in Heliconia rostrata. The abundance consisted of 6798 individuals was concluded that the presence of pest insects in this group of plants should be considered integrated management plans for direct damages.
