The objective of this work was to carry out a study of in vitro antibacterial activity of the fractionated ethanolic extract of the bark of Byrsonima crassifolia "Indano" against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli by the agar diffusion method. The samples of "Indano" barks came from the community of Lamas - Province of Lamas, district of Lamas, Department of San Martín - Peru. The sample was macerated to obtain the ethanolic extract and then the fractionation was carried out obtaining four fractions that were classified as fraction A, fraction B (acidic), Fraction C (neutral) and fraction D (aqueous). The determination of the antibacterial activity in vitro was carried out by means of the diffusion method in disk agar and the macrodilution method in liquid medium to determine the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration, using the strains of Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC for both methods 25923. From the "lndano" fractions at the concentrations of 200, 400, 600 and 800 mg, compared to Escherichia coli, 42% were obtained in fraction A, 37% of B, 39% of C and 43% of the D and 123% of the A, 50% of the B, 125% of the C, and 78% of the D, of percentage of bacterial inhibition respectively. A C.M.I. was determined for the fractionated ethanolic bark extract of "Indano". of 0.5 mg / ml with fraction C against Staphylococcus aureus, and with respect to Escherichia coli no activity was found.
