It was determined that the hypoglycemic activity of aqueous leaf extract Pseudelephantopus spiralis (Lessing) a dosis de 100 mg/Kg y 200 mg/Kg body weight on hyperglycemia induced in male albino rats Holtzmann , through experimental study randomized to the control group . The extract was orally administered 48 hours after induction of experimental diabetes solution Alloxano 5% (Administered intraperitoneally ) to albino rats normoglycemic with average weight of 260g + 10 prior fasting for 12 hours. They were randomly assigned 40 rats divided into 4 groups; 1st group received orally 3ml distilled water, the solution received Glibenclamida 2to 10 mg. The two experimental groups received the corresponding dose study plant ( 100 mg / kg and 200 mg / Kg ) and After administering the respective substances , glycemia was quantified to: 1, 3, 6 , 12 and 24 hours. At study end euthanasia of all animals was performed by cervical dislocation. The groups treated with P. spiralis obtained percentages of decrease in blood glucose levels of 15.95 % and 33.04 % at doses of 100mg / kg and 200mg/kg respectively. It is concluded that the aqueous extract of leaves Pseudelephantopus spiralis, presented statistically significant at 24 hours post treatment with plant extracts study hypoglycemic activity.
