Objectives: To determine the relationship between the position of mandibular third molar and its proximity to the inferior dental nerve canal on panoramic radiographs of patients who attend the privated consultation at the SODGEN radiological clinic – Iquitos; 2017-2020. Methodology: It is a quantitative, observational, correlational study. The population were 1168 panoramic radiographs that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The sampling was census type. The virtual file data were collected according to: 1. General patient data, 2. Position of mandibular third molar, 3. Location of the inferior dental nerve canal, 4. Radiological sings of contact between the mandibular third molar and the inferior dental nerve canal. The information was analyzed in Microsoft Excel 2013® and in the IBM SPSS Statistics 25 statistical program. Results: It was found that tooth 3.8 and 4.8 predominated class II and position A according to Pell and Gregory, and mesioangular according to Winter. The most frequent location of the inferior dental nerve canal according to Nortjé's was Type I. In addition, the most common radiological contact sign was Dark Band with 49,4% corresponding to the right side. Conclusions: The space, depth, and angulation parameters of tooth 3.8 were related to proximity of the inferior dental nerve canal. and in tooth 4.8, only the depth was related to the inferior dental nerve canal.
