The study was carried out in the facilities of the faculties of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, Nursing and Dentistry; Aims to determine the main characteristics of self-medication in students of the second semester – 2016 of UNAP were taken into account. The results obtained are as follows: The students of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry were the ones with the highest percentage of non-prescription medicines (95.8%), followed by students from the Faculty of nursing (85.4%) and Dentistry (65.4%), with respect to the symptoms that motivated self-medication in three faculties under study, the main cause was headache, mestrual and troat with (23.8%), (25.3%), and (28.9%) by faculty respectively; in the types of drugs used, analgesics, anti-inflamatories, antifebrile drugs, anti-fluids and nasal decongestants were the most used (18.2%), (25.9%) and (24.8%) by faculty, respectively, were found to be consumed as for the type of adversiting that influences the consumption of nonprescription medication, televisión and the Internet have a greater influence with (71.9%), (70.3%) and (73.8%) per faculty respectively, this can be congruent.
