Objective: Determine the prevalence of use and its classification by category according Food and Drugs Administration FDA of the drugs used by pregnant women treated at the Regional Hospital of Loreto between September 2015 and August 2016. Methods: It is a descriptive, transversal, observational study of a sample of 392 pregnant patients. The medical records of mothers and their newborns were reviewed to confirm the information obtained. The drugs used were classified as low, medium or high risk for the fetus, according to FDA risk standards. Results: A preponderance of 67.3% of the use of a drug by the pregnant woman was found. 39,4% were between 18 and 25 years old. 53,8% had gestational age between 3 to 10 weeks and 42.8% had gestational age over 10 weeks; 85,6% used a prescription drug; 91,8% were unaware of the side effects that the drug used could cause in her and her baby; 43,2% used category B drugs (among antibiotics, AINEs and antiemetics), and 3,4 category X drugs (misoprostol). Conclusions: 67 out of 100 pregnant women used a drug during the gestation period, 92 out of 100 pregnant women were unaware of the side effects of the drug on it and the baby. a) Of the pregnant women who had 0-2 weeks of gestation: 44.4% used drugs of category B, 33.3% used drugs of category C and 22.2% used drugs of categories D and X. b) Of the pregnant women who had 3 to 10 weeks gestation: 45.1% used drugs of category B, 34.5% used drugs of category A and 5.6% used drugs of category X. c) Of the pregnant women who Had more than 10 weeks of gestation: 40.7% used drugs of category B; 30.0% use drugs of categories A and C, none of these pregnant women used drugs of category X.
