OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of Burnout syndrome in health professionals of the Iquitos Hospital emergency service, 2019. METHODS: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out. The sample size was 60 health professionals from the Iquitos Hospital emergency service. The study was carried out at the Iquitos Hospital facilities, where a survey was used with the Maslach Burnout Inventory questionnaire as an instrument, which is an internationally validated instrument for the study of Burnout syndrome. RESULTS: The work enrolled 60 participants. 66% were female and 43% between the age of 31 to 40 years. Regarding seniority in the workplace, the majority are between 6 and 20 years old. When the seniority of the worker in the emergency was analyzed, 36.6% is between 6 to 10 years. As for the number of guards performed, 80% perform 12 shifts per month and 35% of workers have a second job outside the hospital. When evaluating the results of the Maslach Burnout Inventory questionnaire, 8.3% of the workers evaluated had emotional fatigue, 20% depersonalization and 48.3% had low personal achievement. When determining the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome, only 1 case (1.6%) was found in the study population. CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of the syndrome was 1.6% of the total, however, when analyzing its components, a high percentage of personal non-fulfillment was found that reached 48.3%; This is a sentinel event that workers are at risk of presenting with Burnout syndrome.
