INTRODUCTION: Appendicitis is inflammation of the vermiform appendix of the caecum, appendiceal obstruction due to fecal inflammation, lymphoid hyperplasia, infectious processes and tumors. It has been proposed as the main cause of appendicitis. Nearly 7% of people in Western countries have appendicitis at some point in their lives OBJECTIVE: To identify the factors associated with postoperative complications in patients undergoing complicated acute appendicitis at Hospital Apoyo Iquitos from January to December 2017. METHODS: Observational Study - Cases and Controls. The study population consists of all patients diagnosed with acute appendicitis at the Hospital Apoyo Iquitos between January 1 and December 31, 2017. A data collection form was used. for the collection of the information obtained in this study. The analysis of the information included descriptive analysis, bivariate analysis (association between dependent and independent variable) and multivariate analysis using binary logistic regression (OR). RESULTS: A logistic regression study was carried out which predicted risks and estimated the strength of association of each factor and corroborated if the results of the bivariate analysis were correct. Only 3 showed a statistically significant association; the degree of instruction (p value 0.045 OR 0.191 95% CI, 038-, 966), the length of hospitalization (p value 0.012 OR 28.692 IC95% 4.179-197.007) and the postoperative diagnosis, (p value 0, 058 OR 6.666 IC95 %, 937-47.445). . The rest of the variables do not present statistical significance. CONCLUSIONS: it can be concluded that patients with a secondary or higher level of education is a protective factor for presenting postoperative complications, while the length of hospitalization and postoperative diagnosis are risk factors for postoperative complications due to complicated acute appendicitis. . The rest of the variables do not present statistical significance.
