In the present research work, the influence of the probiotic EM • 1® (effective microorganisms) on the growth and body composition of Astronotus ocellatus “acarahuazú” fingerlings reared in aquariums for a period of 90 days was determined. The study was carried out at the Research Institute of the Peruvian Amazon (IIAP), Loreto Region during the months of September 2014 to January 2015. 120 acarahuazú fingerlings were used with an initial weight of 1.99 ± 0.27 and an initial length of 3.17 ± 0.30, distributed in 10 aquariums, at a density of 1 fish / 3L. We worked with three treatments including the different percentages of the probiotic EM • 1® in the balanced feed (T1: 2.5% / daily ration; T2: 5.0% / daily ration; T3: 7.5% / daily ration) and a control T0: 0 % / daily ration. The fish were fed an extruded diet of the commercial brand Aquatech at 45% crude protein (CP), the feeding frequency was twice a day (8:00 and 16:00) at 5% of the total biomass. No significant differences were found (P> 0.05) in weight T1: 14.91 ± 4.00 g; T2: 14.06 ± 4.30 g; T3: 15.50 ± 5.01 g and T0: 16.70 ± 4.48 g, likewise in length T1: 8.59 ± 0.80 cm; T2: 8.66 ± 0.66 cm; T3: 9.10 ± 0.99 cm and T0: 9.04 ± 0.90 cm. The zootechnical indices: Apparent Food Conversion Index, Specific Growth Rate, Condition Factor and Survival did not present significant difference (P> 0.05) between the treatments at the end of the experiment. In the bromatological analysis, the ethereal or fat extract, ash and moisture were similar for all treatments, while the protein content increased in T3: 7.5% presenting significant differences (P <0.05). It was concluded that the use of the probiotic EM • 1® in the treatments had no influence on the growth and the bromatological composition, only a significant difference was observed in the muscle protein content of the "acarahuazú" fingerlings in the different treatments.
