The intention of the investigation was to determine the effect hipoglicemiant of the watery extract lyophilized of Tabebuia obscura, on the hiperblood sugar induced in albino rates males of Holtzmann´s vine stock. The was in use the bark of Tabebuia obscura, one used 40 rates (average weight of 160±200g), that were assigned secuensy in 4 groups (2 groups received the dose of the extract (25mg/Kg and 50mg/Kg); the 3rd group received saline solution to 0.9% and 4th it got for oral route Glibenclamida´s solution 0.25mg); method: the induction of hyperblood sugar in rates went for route intraperitonial with Alloxan´s solution to 5% to dose of 135mg/Kg of corporal weight. The extract managed the affairs for oral route 48 hours of the induction of experimental diabetes, previously12-hour fast. After administering the respective substances, glycaemia was quantified by the glucose oxidase method at 1, 3, 6, 12 and 24 hours. According to the results of the dried aqueous extract from the bark of Tabebuia obscura, lowers blood glucose levels by 42.5% and decreased finding statistically significant increase (p <0.05) of blood glucose, respectively, compared with baseline hyperglycemic and control groups (positive and negative), giving best result to control group hypoglycemic Tabebuia obscure 50mg/kg.
