The objective of the study was to determine the parasitism of branchiuros in specimens of Pseudoplatystoma punctifer "doncella" reared in a fish pond. The total population under investigation consisted of 29 "maiden" specimens. The collection of branchiuros was the product of 12 samplings that were carried out periodically to the hosts. The quantitative analysis was carried out by calculating the parasitic indices and the statistical analysis of Spearman (rs) was used. The physical-chemical variables of the water (water temperature (° C), dissolved oxygen (mg / l) and pH) were monitored 03 times a week for 12 months. The results indicated that all the "doncella" specimens were parasitized by Dolops discoidalis, with a prevalence of 100% and an intensity of 1143 (1-23). Regarding the correlation between the parasite abundance with the total length (cm) and weight (kg) of the hosts, significant values were obtained (rs = 0.58, p = 0.0001; rs = 0.64, p = 0.002) also, of the 1143 ectoparasites, 417 were identified as males, 379 as females, and 347 as juveniles. Concerning the place of fixation of the parasite on the hosts, 879 individuals adhered to the dorsal part and 264 to the ventral part were registered. It is concluded that the physical-chemical variables of the water do not influence the parasite abundance of D. discoidalis.
