Hypertension is one of the most common diseases in older adults, there are drugs that reduce its complications; however, most of them produce xerostomia. Objective: To determine the relationship between xerostomia and antihypertensive drugs in hypertensive patients treated at the "Regional Hospital of Loreto 2015". Method: This study is descriptive, transversal and correlational, salivary flow of patients receiving antihypertensive drugs in the Regional Hospital of Loreto "Arriola Felipe Santiago Iglesias" was measured. Underwent global salivary Test "Schirmer" (sialometry). The information is concentrated in a database and tests of independence between these variables were performed using the x2 test. Results: A sample of 385 patients was obtained; of which 54.5% were male and 45.5% female. With an average age of 64 years; the 72.55% de los hypertensive patients have a very low salivary flow. 50% of the sample are controlled under 24 months. The most commonly used drugs are Losartan 87%, Captopril with 56.1%, 44.7% Amlodipine, Enalapril 26.5%, 25.7% Furosemide .On the other hand, the least used drugs are: Propranolol and Fenoldopam with only 0.3%. Hidroclorotiazida with 0.8% of its use in the Regional Hospital of Loreto 2015. Discussion: estimating the percentage obtained in patients with xerostomia in the Regional Hospital of Loreto is 72.5%, we observe that differs from results obtained in the study by Ibañez, N. et al. (2011) in Toluca, Mexico, where it is seen that 88.51% have xerostomia. While Ibañez, N. et al (2009) found that 79% of patients presented xerostomia. However in the "Loreto Regional Hospital", the most commonly used antihypertensive drugs have to Losartán (87%), captopril (56.1%), amlodipine (44.7%), enalapril (26.5%), furosemide (25 , 7%) and the least used to have Propranolol, Fenoldopam with only one (0.3%) and 18 Hidroclorotiazida one (0.8%). While the study by Ibañez, N. et al. (2011), the most commonly used drugs are furosemide, enalapril and nifedipine. Átila, N. et al. (2009), the most commonly used drugs are hidroclorotiazida, nifedipine and Methyldopa; which differs from our study not meeting our expectations. Conclusion: The analysis in this study allows us to conclude that there predisposition care in males with 54.5% and 45.5% in females, the most widely used drugs in hypertensive patients are losartan with 87 % and a 56.1% captopril, just as the study indicates that 72.55% of hypertensive patients treated at the Regional Hospital of Loreto have very low xerostomia.
