In the present work a verification of the specified technical data of the external insulation of the yard equipment of the substation "220/138-60/10 kV" in height. It consists of developing equivalent circuits to simulate switching events in substations and atmospheric discharges in the transmission line, as well as performing insulation coordination calculations according to the IEC 60071 standard. The simulation of events and atmospheric discharges in modeled circuits consists of verifying that the overvoltages produced by: the energization of the transmission line from the local end with an operating voltage of 60 kV, from the local and remote end with an operating voltage of 138 kV and energization of the power transformer with an operating voltage of 220 kV; In addition, the overvoltages produced by lightning current peaks with a probability of occurrences of 5% and 1% (according to Anderson's formula) whose values are 96 kA and 182 kA, with a waveform of 1.2/50 µs and 2/ 50 µs respectively, do not exceed the technical values specified for the external insulation of 60 kV, 138 kV and 220 kV equipment, respectively. The overvoltage values obtained in the simulations and calculations are lower than the overvoltage values specified for the external isolation of the equipment. Therefore, the technical data specified for the external insulation of the yard equipment of the 220 / 60-138 / 10 kV substation are adequate for the height of the project.
