The Atacocha mine is a polymetallic deposit of Zn, Pb, Ag with Au content, located in the province and department of Pasco, in the Western Cordillera, between levels 3900 to 4330 meters above sea level, 331 km northeast of Lima. In the area, the sedimentary sequence made up of limestone from the Pucará Group and sandstone from the Goyllarizquisga Group emerges. These sediments were cut by the San Gerardo intrusive of dioritic composition. This rock was dated by the potassium-argon method between 25-30 Ma. Petromineragraphic studies, mineralogical analysis by X-ray Diffraction, fluid inclusion studies and Scanning Electron Microscopy have been carried out. Studies of thin sections of the San Gerardo intrusive indicate the presence of illite-smectite, adularia, quartz and carbonates. Mineralization in the area occurs in veins and bodies filled with sphalerite, galena, bournonite, freirbergite, in addition to values with Au, the gangues consist of pyrite, rhodochrosite, associated with alabandite, quartz and calcite structures, which are controlled by a NW-SE structural system parallel to the Fault 13 system, in addition to being present within a Riedel system of sinestral conjugate faults and transcurrent-normal faults. The study of fluid inclusions reflects homogenization temperatures between 200 - 320°C, with a salinity of 3 to 5 % Eq. By weight of NaCl. The possible mineralization environment of the San Gerardo Tajo area, in the Atacocha mine, is that of a low to intermediate sulfidation epithermal with significant Au and Ag.
