Background: The Neonatal death is a public health problem, defined as the death produced between the time of birth and 28 days of life, with a gestational age greater or equal to 22 weeks and / or a weight greater or equal to 500 gr at the time of birth. According to WHO about 2.6 million neonates die each year, in Peru 3183 neonatal deaths were reported in 2017, while in the department of Cusco for 2018, 180 were reported. The objective of the research will be to determine what factors are associated with neonatal deaths in the Regional Hospital Cusco during the period 2016 - 2018 Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional retrospective study was conducted, taking as a population the neonatal deaths that meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria. A data sheet was used to collect and systematize the data with the help of the Microsoft Excel 2016 program, to perform a descriptive analysis, using absolute and relative frequencies. Results: It was found that 71.8% of the mothers of the neonates were between 19 and 35 years old, 41.9% had a single pregnancy, while only 6% had more than 5 pregnancies, 74.4% were fulfilled less than 6 prenatal checkups, 86.3% were cohabiting, 70.1% completed high school and only 5.1% had no study, 65.8% had some pathology during pregnancy, being urinary tract infection the most prevalent in 44.2%, Premature rupture of membranes in the 28.6%, and severe preeclampsia in 19.5%; 24.8% of newborns presented a type of malformation, the most frequent being cardiac, 89.6% had a weight less than 2500 grams and 92.3% had a gestational age less than 37 weeks. The hyaline membrane disease (HMD) occurred in 86.3% of the deceased neonates, followed by sepsis in 53.8%, severe neonatal depression in 41.9% and moderated neonatal depression in 34.2%. 49.6% died in the first 3 days of life and 23.9% died after 7 days of life. The main cause of death was HMD in 44.4% of deceased neonates, sepsis in 20.5%, and Necrotising enterocolitis in 15.4%. Conclusions: The most frequently associated factors were maternal pathologies in 65.8%, weight less than 2500 grams in 89.6%, prematurity in 92.3%, cesarean delivery in 68.4% of cases and HMD in 86.3% of cases, followed by sepsis in 53.8%.
