The main purpose of this research is to determine the influence of the xanthan biopolymer in the improvement of the mechanical properties of the subgrade in this sense we consider portland cement as a pattern in order to see the behavior of the xanthan biopolymer since cement is always integrated in the construction, therefore four mixtures of the biopolymer with the natural soil have been carried out: natural soil (1), natural soil + 0. 5% xanthan (2), natural soil+1% xanthan (3), natural soil+2.5% xanthan(4) and with cement: natural soil+ 8% cement(5), natural soil+10% cement(6) and natural soil+12% cement(7). These were evaluated in the laboratory: modified proctor test, compressive strength and bearing capacity CBR and dry density, for both xanthan and cement. The research method has a quantitative approach, with an explanatory level using the hypothetical deductive research method, where the methodological design is quasi-experimental. Within the classification of the soil, the result was A-2-7 by the AASTHO method and by the SUCS method it is a SP-SC soil, poorly graded sand with clayey sand and whose maximum dry density is 2.11 ton/m3 (1), 2.18 tn/m3 (2), 2.08 tn/m3 (3), 2.01 tn/m3 (4) and for cement 2.14 ton/m3 (5), 2.09 ton/m3 (6), 2.08 ton/m3 (7). Result for compressive strength 18.47 kg/cm2 (1), 29.37 kg/cm2 (2), 44.03 kg/cm2 (3), 39.17 kg/cm2 (4) and for cement 70.67 kg/cm2 (5), 91.53 kg/cm2 (6), 101.33 kg/cm2 (7). For the case of CBR at its maximum compaction for xanthan 64.9 (1), 59.4 (2), 58.2(3), 63.1 (4) and for cement 76.1 (5), 24.1 (6), 72 (7) maximum compaction of 56 blows.
