Objectives: The objective of this study was to determine the clinical and surgical characteristics in the treatment of patients with post-intubation tracheal stenosis due to COVID-19 at Adolfo Guevara Velasco Hospital between 2020 and 2022. Method: This observational, descriptive-correlational, longitudinal, cross-sectional, and retrospective study included 26 patients who underwent surgical treatment for postintubation tracheal stenosis due to COVID-19 between 2020 and 2022 at Adolfo Guevara Velasco Hospital. Data on risk factors, clinical characteristics, surgical treatment, and outcomes were collected and analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Pearson chisquare test of independence. Results: The study found that 84.6% of the patients were male, and 50% were between 30 and 50 years old, while the other 50% were between 50 and 70 years old. Dyspnea was the most common clinical characteristic presented in 84.6% of the patients. The average intubation period was 26.4 days, with 88.5% of patients having prolonged intubation of more than 7 days. Cervical tracheoplasty was the most used surgical treatment (92.3%), with the resection with anastomosis plus T-tube Montgomery technique being the most used operative technique (76.9%). The results showed that most patients experienced postoperative complications, including granuloma (38.5%), persistent stenosis (30.8%), and vocal cord paralysis (34.6%). A significant relationship was found between the presence of granulomas and age group (p=0.016), as well as between postoperative infections and poor nutritional status (p=0.000). A significant relationship was found between the presence of granulomas and the surgical technique used (p=0.027), and a significant relationship was found between the absence of postoperative complications and the lower number of compromised tracheal rings (p=0.017). Finally, a significant relationship was found between the persistence of stenosis and concurrent infections (p=0.030). Conclusions: The findings of this study suggest that post-COVID-19 intubation tracheal stenosis can lead to significant morbidity and mortality. Patients who underwent surgical treatment had varying outcomes, with some experiencing postoperative complications. The study highlights the importance of early diagnosis, appropriate management, and close follow-up of patients with tracheal stenosis post-COVID-19 intubation.
