INTRODUCTION: The gingival changes during pregnancy are associated with poor oral hygiene, due to several factors, one of them is the hormonal and vascular changes that cause an exaggerated inflammatory response that is accentuated in the gingival tissues before bacterial plaque. Periodontal diseases are localized entities that affect the tooth and support structures, such as gingiva, periodontal ligament, alveolar bone, etc. Periodontal diseases may have generalized systemic effects, although it is true that these effects may be limited to some pregnant women, periodontal infections may have a significant impact on systemic health and in others may serve as risk indicators for certain diseases or systemic conditions. These diseases manifest as periodontitis and gingivitis. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this research was to determine the prevalence of periodontal disease in pregnant women who attend the DIGNIDAD NACIONAL HEALTH CENTER in the district of Santiago cusco-2018. METHOD: The study was descriptive, not experimental, field, observational technique, prospective. We worked with a population of 80 pregnant women from the National Dignity health center who were selected through our inclusion criteria. In which the prevalence of periodontal diseases was determined, they were evaluated by means of a clinical record. Data processing was performed using the SPSS program, descriptive statistics were used with frequency distributions and to establish if there was a relationship between the frequencies, Chi square tests were used as a measure of significance to search for the P value with a confidence interval of 99%RESULTS: It was determined according to the numerical and percentage distribution that periodontitis is mild or moderate localized in 71.3% of pregnant women, with severe periodontitis of 5%, moderate gingivitis in 60%, and severe in 10%. It was found that in the third trimester of gestation periodontal disease increases by 20% in gingivitis and 10% in periodontitis, according to the degree of instruction the highest percentage of periodontal disease occurs in pregnant women without study in 40% respectively, the oral hygiene index is poor in 50% of pregnant women.
