Objective: The objective of this research was to determine the relation between the level of knowledge on dental caries and the CPOD index in adolescents of the E.I.E. "Humberto Luna" Cusco, 2022.Materials and methods: This research was carried with a quantitative, correlational, non-experimental approach. The sample consisted of 150 students between the ages 16 and 17 of both genders of the E.I. E Humberto Luna of the city of Cusco, 2022.The instrument used for this research was a questionnaire that was made with 20 questions on the etiology of dental caries. The questions were divided in the following order: 9 questions on the etiology of dental caries, 3 questions question on the signs and symptoms of dental caries, and 8 questions on caries prevention. Also, a medical record card, along with an odontogram were used to obtain the CPOD index. To validate the instrumentation used for this research, took into account the validation and the criteria of 3 experts and the pilot test, which was carried out in the Miguel Grau School in Vilcabamba-La Convencion. The procedure and the analysis of the statistical data of the information were performed under the SPSS 26 statistical program. To obtain the results, a descriptive statistical analysis of the study of the variables was used, trough out of frequency distribution tables and percentages, given out the results by dimension and the total. Results: With regard to the level of knowledge on dental caries, the outcome was good (81.3%), being this one the highest percentage, followed by the regular knowledge (18.7%). The level of severity of dental caries was moderate (66%), followed by a low level (18%), a high level (12%) and a very low level (4%). The CPOD index was higher in those who had a fair knowledge in relation to those who had good knowledge. According to the Kruskal Wallis H statistical test, this difference of means was not significant p=0.104 (p>0.05) meaning that the means are similar. Conclusions: At last, the relation between the level of knowledge on dental caries and CPOD index was greater in those with regular knowledge in relation to those with good knowledge, with a moderate level of severity of dental caries for both groups, being these relations not significant. Key words: Level of knowledge, CPOD index, Dental caries
