The aim of this research was to assess the relation between the Body Mass Index and the risk of decay in children of 5 to 7 years old in the Kindergarten Institution N°88 “Doris Vera Hermoza” of the District of Cusco. Methodologically, this study has a correlational and, an observational approach, it is a cross-sectional study. The sample was composed of 200 students, those were chosen using a simple random sampling technique. A data collection sheet elaborated specifically for the research was used as instrument. The program WHO Anthro of the World Health Organization was used to determine the Body Mass Index according to the height and weight of the children. The risk of decay was evaluated with a def-t Index of each child. The information was collected using an Excel sheet version 2010. The data processing was performed with the program SPSS 24.0 edition. Descriptive statistic was used with frequency distribution and central tendency. In order to establish whether or not there was relation between the variables, the Tau c Kendall test was applied, with a significance level of 0.05. The results allowed us to determine that there is no statistically significant relation between the Body Mass Index and the risk of decay.
