One of the most important human right is the access to health, this includes the access to a quality, affordable and informed medical treatment. Is under this premise that the obtaining of meds plays an important part since health service expenses for themselves are already quite costly. For that reason, is that the generic meds can be perceived as the most adequate alternative solution for this social necessity; however, researches in Latin America are scarce due to inefficient registry of data, incorrect elaboration of data banks, the exclusivity and secrecy in the pharmaceutics industry, and the difficulty of the analysis of meds in conjunction. Therefore, the present research has the objective of identify the main factors that determine the generic meds demand in Cusco city for the year 2019; for convenience purposes in data collection and due to the issuance of a law in Peru at the end of the year 2019 for generic meds promotion and stock obligation in any pharmacy. For that objective, this research chooses to prove the relationship of the generic meds demand and the variables of consumer’s med buy destined income, prices of generic meds, requested information to the pharmacist, frequency of medical prescription given in generic meds and last, the consumer’s perception of generic meds. The methodology for this purpose is of descriptive-correlational; this research has an experimental, cross-sectional level that will allow to analyze the actual situation of generic meds in Cusco city. For the obtaining of the data, 384 surveys were applied to five of the metropolitan districts of Cusco. For the data processing and interpretation basic statistic parameters were used, and for the econometric modeling the multilevel ordered logit model was applied due to the main characteristics of the variable’s indicators that are not numerical but of staggered levels. All the variables included in this research proved to be significant at a 95% level of confidence, each one of them obtained the following coefficients: “income” with 𝛽1 = −0.53, “price” with 𝛽5 = 0.19; “information” with 𝛽2 = −0.66, “frequency of medical prescription” with 𝛽3 = 0.48 and finally “consumer’s perception of generic meds” with 𝛽4 = −0.82. Also these variables explain the generic meds demand in Cusco city by a 52,06%. Finally, doing the respective level-cut analysis for the multilevel ordered logit model, the consumed levels six, five and four were found to had the most elevated marginal effects allocated, in these levels, the relationship with the dependent variable would change its relationship or will start to decline, being level four where the Cusco city’s generic meds market starts to act as a more competitive one.
