Background: Atrial fibrillation has a prevalence of 2 to 9% and increases five times the risk of stroke. Non-adherence to oral anticoagulation with warfarin is identified as an important determinant of poor treatment. The aim of the study was to determine the associated factors with non-adherence to oral anticoagulation in patients with atrial fibrillation at Adolfo Guevara Velasco Hospital 2018. Methods: A cross-sectional analytical study, through a sample of patients with atrialn fibrillation. Non-adherence to oral anticoagulation will be studied (Modified Morisky test of 8 items) and 18 probable factors associated with it. For the analysis of the data, the odds ratio (OR), the Chi square test and 95% confidence intervals will be used; through the statistical program SPSS version 24.0. Results: Of the 207 patients included in the study, 125 were not adherent to oral nanticoagulation with warfarin, representing 60.4%. The associated factors were: not have prior knowledge of the disease (OR = 2.45, 95% CI [1.3-4.5], p = 0.003), not have prior knowledge of the treatment (OR = 2.84, 95% CI [1.5-5.4] , p = 0.001), not have family support and/or caregivers (OR = 4.56, 95% CI [2.1-9.9], p = 0.01), presence of side effects of warfarin (OR = 2.22, CI 95% [1.2-4.2], p = 0.01), alcohol consumption (OR = 2.12, 95% CI [1.2-3.8], p = 0.01) and tobacco consumption (OR = 2.15, 95% CI [1.1-4.6], p = 0.03). Conclusions: In our study it was evidenced that the level of non-adherence to oral anticoagulation with warfarin was 60.4%. The associated factors were: poor knowledge of the disease, poor knowledge of the treatment, not have family support and/or caregivers, presence of side effects of warfarin, alcohol consumption and tobacco use.
