This research analyzes the effect that the gas canon has had on the economic and social development of the province of Paruro during the 2013-2018 period. A non-experimental design and a linear regression model are used to identify the effect of the gas canon. The data used correspond to the National Household Survey (ENAHO) for the 2013-2018 period. Among the main conclusions, it is found that the Canon has no effect on the net income, consumption or poverty level of families in general; and when the effect is analyzed by district, no significant effects are observed at the district level in general, except for the Paccaritambo district, in which the gas canon increased the level of net income and reduced poverty, both coefficients are statistically significant at 10 % and 1% respectively. Finally, it was observed that the PIM or Modified Initial Budget, that is, the annual expenditure of the province also has no short-term effects on social development. It should be noted that an attempt was made to reduce the problem of omitted variables including other controls such as the number of income earners and the geographic stratum. Fixed effects were also included by district and geographic stratum to identify the effect only in the districts (Canon - District Interaction).
