Background: Functional capacity is the full capacity of the individual to preserve physical autonomy, the theory indicates that functional impairment occurs in a natural physiological way, but there are associated factors that can contribute to precipitating its progress, producing a functional alteration due to This is that the objective of the research is to determine the factors associated with the alteration of functionality in older adult patients of the Metropolitan Medical Center. Methods: An observational case-control study will be carried out at the Metropolitan Medical Center, Cusco, 2023. Results: It was found that the group with the most frequent age was from 70 to 79 years (43.8%), the female sex was predominant (55.7%) in relation to the male sex. 13 risk factors were evaluated; of which it was found that the age greater than 80 years (OR=7.34, 95% CI [3.73-14.46], p=0.00), the female gender (OR=2.27, 95% CI [1.20-4.27], p= 0.01), marital status single or widowed (OR=2.31, 95% CI [1.24-4.30], p=0.00), nutritional status in malnutrition (OR=3.20, 95% CI [1.65 -6.19], p= 0.00 ), the presence of chronic pain (OR=2.77, 95% CI [1.39-5.52], p=0.003) and the presence of joint disease (OR=2.60, 95% CI [1.37-4.92], p=0.003), They are associated with impaired functionality. Conclusions: It is concluded that there is an association between the alteration of functionality and the age over 80 years, the female gender, the single or widowed marital status, the nutritional status in malnutrition, the presence of chronic pain and joint disease in patients. older adults of the Metropolitan Medical Center, Cusco, 2023.
