Objective: To compare the in vitro antibacterial efficacy of the Rocoto (Capsicum pubescens) and the capsaicin’s extract on Porphyromonas gingivalis ATCC 33277 cause of periodontal disease. Methodology: In this study the antibacterial efficacy was evaluated by spectrophotometry. Were used strains of Porphyromonas gingivalis ATCC 33277 that was cultivated in agar Mueller Hinton enriched with blood at 5%, brain heart infusion broth (BHI), Thioglycolate with a temperature of 37 ° C in an anaerobic environment incubated for 10 days. The growing curve was established to determine the growing of bacterial suspensions by reading the absorbance (Optical Density) at 600 mm wavelength every hour for 30 hours. The study’s design was an in vitro experimental with a crosssectional type. Different volumes of BHI broth were introduced in micro-liters in each sample of quartz cuvette with the antibacterials a)fresh presentation of Rocoto (Capsicum pubescens), b)Capsaicin’s extract, c)ethanol and d)distilled water such as Control(negative) and e) Chlorhexidine and f) Azithromycin as Control(positive) at different concentrations of 25%, 50 % and 75% correspondingly, to finish was injected the anaerobic system (S.I.A) to each sample. The total was examined 46 samples, of which the absorbance was reading every hour for 30 hours in total, we found no significant differences. Results: The results showed that, Capsaicin’s extract has a better antibacterial efficacy compared to the fresh presentation of Rocoto (Capsicum pubescens), getting results almost equal to chlorhexidine 0.12% while azithromycin of 500mg, alcohol and distilled water don’t present any Antibacterial effect that means the active substance (Capsaicin) is the only one that has this property, all studies were done with the absorbance’s measures of each sample. Conclusion: The Capsaicin’s extract has an antibacterial efficacy that is 100% superior compare to Rocoto (Capsicum pubescens) on Porphyromonas gingivalis ATCC 33277 cause of periodontal disease.
