OBJECTIVE: To determine the influence of visual acuity in the academic performance of school children from 4th to 6th grade of the primary level of the educational institution San Martín, San Salvador, Cusco – 2019. DESIGN: the study is descriptive, prospective, transversal and correlational, the population was made up of 70 schoolchildren. RESULTS: Regarding the characteristics of school children from 4th to 6th grade of the primary level: 55.7% are female, 51.4% are between 9 and 10 years old, 65.7% come from the center of San Salvador, 61.4% refer no family history of loss of visual acuity, 61.4% reported headaches, 87.1% did not wear corrective lenses, 48.6% performed ophthalmological consultation at times, 11.4% used candles, 48.6% read at a normal distance to the study material and 45.7% have a regular size in their calligraphy. On the visual acuity in the left eye they presented 74.3% and in the right eye 78.6% normal; In general, the level of visual acuity in both eyes was 72.9% with a normal visual acuity level. In terms of academic performance, 84.3% have an expected accomplishment and 15.7% require recovery. The relationship between visual acuity and academic performance of school children from 4th to 6th grade of the primary level of San Martín de San Salvador educational institution, Cusco - 2019, this is statistically significant with a value of p = 0.04 of chi square lower ap = 0.05. Concluding in this way that the level of visual acuity influences the academic performance.
