The present research thesis has as main objective the implementation of new proposals to improve the quality of adobe units, with the purpose of guaranteeing the functionality of masonry units, without excessively increasing the cost of them. It is for this reason that we have made an analysis of the physical and mechanical properties of the traditional adobe units, as well as of the units of stabilized adobe with 5% and 10% asphalt; Comparing the characteristics of the stabilized adobe units versus the characteristics of traditional adobe units produced in the city of Cusco. The development of the research consists of an evaluation that starts from material selection, in-situ tests, raw material tests, physical and mechanical level tests of traditional adobe units and asphalt-stabilized adobe units. Comparing them generates favorable results for the units of adobe stabilized with asphalt, because these units possess better resistant properties and a better behavior against the contact with the water than the traditional adobe units.
