Abstract: El estudio cuyo Objetivo es Identificar las características generales de la población en estudio y la Caracterización de la automedicación en los pobladores de la Unidad Vecinal de Santiago, Cusco-2015.
Estudio que se realizo fue: Descriptivo, Prospectivo y Transversal. La muestra de estudio es de 92 personas de la unidad vecinal de Santiago. La técnica utilizada fue la entrevista y el instrumento fue la encuesta.
Las conclusiones fueron: dentro de las características generales el 64.1% de los pobladores tienen entre 31 a 40 años de edad, 73.9% son de sexo femenino, 76.1% son casados(as) ,91.3% con un grado de nivel superior, 66.3% en cuanto a su religión es católica, 61.9% con un ingreso económico 1000 a 1500 soles mensual.
La característica de la automedicación en pobladores de la Unidad Vecinal Santiago se vio que la gran mayoría tiene el antecedente de haberse automedicado (52.2%) y lo realizan en su mayoría tres a más veces al mes (53.3%). Ya que las afecciones que motivan su automedicación es por resfríos (56.5%) El medicamento que se utilizó con más frecuencia es el analgésico (53.3%). Dentro de ellos tenemos el Paracetamol (36.9%). El antibiótico que se empleó en la automedicación es la Amoxicilina (29.3%).seguidamente el antipirético que se empleo es el ibuprofeno (36.9%). También en poca cantidad el ansiolítico que se empleo es el Diazepam (3.3%). La administración del medicamento, es por vía oral (94.5%). El lugar donde se adquieren los medicamentos sin receta médica es generalmente en una farmacia (66.3%). La influencia para que se automediquen es por parte de parientes cercanos (39.1%). La condición de compra de medicamentos en su mayoría es porque alguien les recomendó (45.6%). La información que reciben sobre los medicamentos se les brinda en gran mayoría en la farmacia (65.2%) donde acuden a comprar los medicamentos.

Study that was done was: Descriptive, prospective and transversal. The study sample is 92 people from the neighborhood unit of Santiago. The technique used was the interview and the instrument was a survey. The findings were within the general characteristics 64.1% of the residents are between 31-40 years old, 73.9% were female, 76.1% are married (as), 91.3% with a degree of higher level, 66.3% in their religion is Catholic, 61.9% with an income 1000-1500 monthly suns. The characteristic of self-medication in people of the Neighborhood Unit Santiago was that the vast majority have a history of self-medicating (52.2%) and they do so on their most three more times a month (53.3%). Because the conditions that led to its self-medication is cold (56.5%) The drug used most often is the analgesic (53.3%). Among them we Paracetamol (36.9%).
