The present research work was carried out with the purpose of evaluating the phytoremediation capacity of Zantedeschia aethiopica and Scirpus californicus using artificial wetlands for the treatment of the waters of the Huatanay river, district of San Jerónimo, province of Cusco. The evaluation was carried out during a period of 42 days, during the months of July and August 2023, in the district of San Jerónimo-Cusco, under greenhouse conditions ex situ, where four treatments with three repetitions were carried out: T1: 6 plants of the plant species of Scirpus californicus with 20 liters of waste water, T2: 6 plants of the plant species of Zantedeschia aethiopica with 20 liters of water, T3: 3 plants of the plant species of Scirpus californicus and 3 plants of the plant species of Zantedeschia aethiopica with 20 liters of water and T4: control treatment with 20 liters of surface water.A completely randomized experimental design (DCA) was used for data analysis. An evaluation of the growth and vegetative development of the studied species and an evaluation of nine parameters was carried out (temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, electrical conductivity, total suspended solids, turbidity, BOD5, COD and TTC). The results obtained in the research indicate a reduction in BOD5 of 75.2% for the treatment with Scirpus californicus, 61.9% for the treatment with Zantedeschia aethiopica and 66.6% for the treatment with both species. For COD, a reduction of 70.8% was obtained for the treatment with Scirpus californicus, 57.6% for the treatment with Zantedeschia aethiopica and 65.2% for the treatment with both species. Likewise, a TTC removal of 99.9% was obtained for all treatments. In conclusion, it is determined that the treatment with Scirpus californicus has a high phytoremediation capacity since the highest percentages of contaminant removal efficiency were obtained.
