Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is of public health importance because of high morbimortality, thromboembolic complications and increased prevalence of risk factors in the population. Therefore, prevention is of great importance to prevent complications. Objective: To determine the risk factors associated with atrial fibrillation in patients treated at the Hospital Nacional Adolfo Guevara Velasco in Cusco - 2022. Methods: This is a non- experimental, cross-sectional, correlational-type, case-control study. The sample was made up of patients treated at the Adolfo Guevara Velasco National Hospital in Cusco, which amount to a total of 192, where 64 cases and 128 controls were obtained. As a technique, the statistical test called Pearson's Chi-square was used, correlation coefficient of two variables as OR (odds ratio) to evaluate the study variables, risk factors and FA. Results: Patients suffering from atrial fibrillation have an average age of 74.78 with an SD: 11.26, where the male gender was the most affected with a frequency of 55.2%, making people with male sex have an OR of 1.42. It was also observed that the most frequent risk factor was arterial hypertension, who are a total of 134 (69.8%) of the 192 patients with an OR of 1,098, on the other hand, it is shown that 25.5% (49) of these patients with AF also suffer from diabetes mellitus with an OR of 1.22, and in the case of CKD it had an OR of 1.44. Conclusions: It is concluded that there is a weak association between clinical risk factors, intrinsic with atrial fibrillation in patients treated at the Adolfo Guevara Velasco National Hospital in Cusco - 2022.
